Since 2017, the Northern Ohio Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics has participated in the local CANstruction competition. The support of individual and business donors are the key to making our structure come to life! Pictured: 2019's entry, "Donkey Kong."
It is a competition between teams of architects, engineers, and other professionals to produce the most creative sculptures…out of cans of food! Awards are given in various categories (“Best use of labels”, “Best meal”, etc.). After the competition, all the canned food is donated to the Cleveland and Akron food banks during their Harvest for Hunger campaign.
CANstruction Cleveland 2019
Cans were on display from April 5- April 14, 2019
South Park Mall in Strongsville, OH.
Our team, in its third year, had a great time building our structure. On the front were Donkey Kong and Mario, while on the back was Pauline. The theme this year was "Heroes and Villians." Donkey Kong was the villian in the original video game, although he went on to be the hero in later titles. As one of the other teams stated, "The real villian is Hunger." Thanks to everyone who supported us and to the organizers of the Canstruction competition.
